“For a person to ‘grow’, they need an environment that provides them with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regard) and empathy (being listened to and understood). Without these, relationships and healthy personalities will not develop as they should, much like a tree will not grow without sunlight and water.” Carl Rogers

Positive Regard TSA, formerly known as Barnsley TSA have been at the forefront of teacher training for the past 5 years. Our School Direct Programme forms a major aspect of this professional development role – through School Direct, we wish to recruit, nurture and develop new and exciting talent to the profession as part of our drive to promote outstanding teaching and learning in our schools.

Positive Regard Teaching School Alliance is led by an outstanding Special school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Springwell Special Academy and have been running the School Direct Programme since 2013.

Positive Regard TSA offers placements in Primary, Secondary and Special settings across the Yorkshire & Humber region. Our programmes are accredited by Sheffield Hallam University leading to QTS/PGCE qualifications. Our training opportunities provide a pathway into teaching that is flexible to individual needs, allowing those who have just completed a degree course or have been working in a career for many years, to combine teacher training with learning within a school based setting.

Schools within our alliance have a strong track record in Initial Teacher Training. This will provide you, whatever your specialist area, with access to a broad range of expertise as your training progresses. All our partner schools offer high levels of support in developing your understanding of teaching and learning pedagogy, as well as providing inspirational experiences on a day-to-day basis.

Throughout the programme, outstanding teachers will support you in your host school along with a school-based mentor and an academic tutor from Sheffield Hallam University. You will also benefit from high quality sessions with other PGCE students at Sheffield Hallam and take part in our weekly bespoke in-house twilight sessions that run throughout the year. At the end of the programme, you will gain Qualified Teacher Status along with a PGCE comprising of 60 credits at Masters Level.
