Training Team

I have been involved in primary school teaching for over 20 years and I have a passion for teaching and learning and helping pupils achieve their full potential. During my teaching career, I have lead on most curriculum subjects including English, maths and music. My interest in maths inspired me to complete a master’s level course in primary maths which enabled me to become an SLE in primary maths and to work with the South Yorkshire Maths Hub. I am also an Associate Lecturer with Sheffield Hallam University teaching in the maths department. Having mentored training teachers throughout my career, I was delighted to be asked to lead our SSELP School Direct just over two years ago. This role has enabled me to link together my passion for teaching and learning with developing the potential in all trainee teachers.

I have been teaching since 1998 and have worked in many schools across Sheffield. I have been supporting and coaching teachers both new to the profession and experienced teachers for over 15 years. As a head teacher, I am keen to find new talent and get the very best out of them. I can see potential in everyone and work to their strengths. Our school is vibrant, inclusive and innovative. We welcome students to our school and have consistently offered jobs our School Direct students since we began.

I am heavily involved in the management team of SSELP School Direct. I am involved with recruitment and training of our students.

I am Head of School at Manor Lodge Community Primary and Nursery School. Before qualifying as a teacher, I studied History at Liverpool University before returning to Sheffield Hallam University to complete a Primary PGCE course.  I have worked at Manor Lodge for twenty years, starting as a recently qualified teacher and fulfilling many different roles. I am very passionate about working in a community school, getting to know the families we serve and supporting them to enable their children to flourish and reach their potential. My interests lie in developing teaching and learning, promoting active learning and creative approaches.

I am involved with the recruitment of students within the SSELP School Direct programme, a role I enjoy very much, meeting people about to embark on their teaching careers and training within our group of schools.

Deborah is the head of school at Tinsley Meadows Primary Academy and Joint lead of Five Rivers Teaching school. She has experience of teaching across a wide range of schools including seven years as deputy at Parson Cross Church of England school. She has been deputy head at Tinsley since 2005 and is now head of school leading on co-ordinating ITT placements across school.

Throughout my teaching career I have been driven to be an outstanding practitioner, developing and learning through continuous professional development opportunities. Prior to headship I led in several areas including KS2, Child Protection, Assessment, Literacy and Adult Education. I was recruited to Wybourn Primary when the school was in Special Measures and was instrumental in the school’s rapid improvement journey, (2012 100% L4 Literacy and 2015 OFSTED Good with Outstanding Leadership). Wybourn has undergone major structural transformation during my leadership, leading to amalgamation with a nursery school and the creation of Wybourn Children’s Centre, upholding the ethos of quality provision from birth. Commitment to early years development and family engagement is a major priority in all my school improvement planning.

In recent years I have undertaken a wider role in education as Locality Lead in Sheffield South East Learning Partnership (SSELP), a well-established and successful collaboration of local schools. SSELP has good rates of improvement in all key phases, within the city and above national rates. I also represent primary leaders in several city wide groups, including Sheffield Schools Forum.

In 2014, I began an Executive Headship in a further two schools with the aim of raising standards at Manor Lodge and making Grace Owen a viable school moving forward. Grace Owen now operates at capacity, in brand new premises with securely good teaching. Manor Lodge is achieving above National Averages in key measures.

In 2016, I became CEO of Sheffield South East Trust a Multi Academy Trust of 4 local primary schools in the South East of the city.

I am a passionate, creative and innovative leader, committed to raising standards and improving life chances for all families and children in Sheffield.
