The Kirklees & Calderdale SCITT is an established provider of initial teacher training since 2003, rated ‘Good’ in our most recent Ofsted inspection. We are able to offer placements across Kirklees, Calderdale and local surrounding areas in a range of different schools.  We take into consideration our trainees location, strengths, skills and needs when placing them in one of our numerous schools.

Our schools

You won’t find a link below to our schools as our list is vast.  We work with many schools in Kirklees and Calderdale and use this range of placements to offer our trainees the right experience in the right location for their needs.

What our trainees think

“The course has provided me with information, confidence and a network of teachers to support my training.  The Friday sessions have complemented my practice and gifted me a plethora of knowledge and resources to utilise.  The careful selections of placement schools have ensure my training has been effective and I have felt supported through-out the course.  Overall, SCITT has nurtured my enthusiasm to teach and developed my practice so I feel optimistic towards my teaching career”

Chloe Cremins, English

“Allowing trainees to be in schools and experience teaching and learning first hand is invaluable!  I was worried about how I would cope with the workload, but spending time in schools and the support of the SCITT mentors and staff allows you to develop and grow as a teacher.”

Michael Foster, Primary

Awards

We were very proud to have 5 out of the 6 shortlisted candidates for Trainee Teacher of the Year at the 2017 Huddersfield Examiner Schools Awards, from our SCITT.  Matthew Kerridge, Secondary Business at Heckmondwike Grammar School was the overall winner last year.

Employment

In 2017/18, we trained 41 teachers across Primary and 1 Secondary into the profession. Out of the 41, 36 were successful in gaining employment with 29 of those working in Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford Schools. We are constantly contacted by head teachers who want to recruit our trainees.

QTS or PGCE

We offer the option of either Qualified Teacher Status alone (QTS) or QTS with PGCE. This PGCE element equates to 60 Masters credits which we offer through the University of Huddersfield.
